The Endangered 8:

San José's Most Threatened Architectural and Cultural Landmarks of 2022

San José is poised on the brink of major transformation in the coming year, with massive new developments slated for downtown and in neighborhoods across the city. While change is inevitable and positive growth is needed, we cannot lose sight of the importance that historic places play in defining the city’s culture and character. Unfortunately, some of our most iconic historic buildings and neighborhoods are currently at risk of being lost forever, whether by demolition for new construction or by slow decay from disinvestment.

Through public education and outreach, civic engagement, political action, legal intervention, and direct technical and financial assistance, PAC*SJ is committed to helping protect, preserve, reimagine, and reinvigorate these irreplaceable landmarks in the coming months and years. We do this both to honor our collective heritage and to enhance the present and future vitality of San José as a distinctive, dynamic, and multi-layered city.
