The Endangered 8: 2023
San José's Most Threatened Architectural and Cultural Landmarks
From the “Valley of Hearts Delight” to the "Capital of Silicon Valley," San Jose boasts a vibrant history rich in scientific innovation, cultural diversity, and architectural heritage. From 19th-century workers’ cottages to Space Age technology hubs, San Jose is a living tapestry of architectural styles and historical narratives that reflect our ever-evolving identity.
Unfortunately, rapid urban development, changing economic priorities, and the passage of time have already erased too many of these invaluable treasures. Without concerted efforts to safeguard the important sites that remain, we risk losing touch with our roots and diminishing the character and sense of place that help define San Jose.
With this, our 2nd annual Endangered 8 list, PAC*SJ aims to raise awareness and galvanize action within the community, encouraging collaboration between residents, property owners, elected officials, and City staff to protect and revitalize these places before they are lost forever.
How you can help
As you explore our Endangered 8 list, we encourage you to delve into the histories and narratives behind each endangered property and learn how you can help safeguard these tangible reminders of San Jose's shared heritage.
