About The Event
This activity will comprise of two parts: first, a walking tour of the Santa Clara University campus, which will highlight 2000+ years of history represented by the archaeological record.
For the second part of the tour, SCU will open the doors to the Archaeological Research Lab at Ricard Observatory. Visitors will be able to see the various archaeological exhibits and get a rare sneak peek into the practice of Cultural Resource Management, professional archaeology, and long-term curation practices. For those possibly interested in volunteering at the lab at a later date, SCU will explain how to make that happen.
The walking tour will be fully accessible, as SCU campus is generally flat. It is advised that visitors bring a water bottle and/or sun protection. The tour of the lab at Ricard Observatory will also be fully accessible, as it is limited to the main floor. There are, unfortunately, no tours of the domes, but the guides are happy to speak about the history of the building (built in 1928), as well as the various historical and archaeological collections contained within.
