San Jose Signs Index 

The South Bay was once home to several neon donuts. Today, there is just one—it sits atop the weathered Sputnik sign at Supreme Donut in the old Lincoln Glenn Shopping Center. The sign’s associated donut shop opened in 1962. In the early 1960s, the Space Race between the United States and the Soviet Union was in full swing. Why not name your donut shop after a Soviet satellite?
