January 29th was an exciting day because we witnessed the record breaking move of the Montgomery Hotel building. The building weighed 9.6 million pounds. The move started at 9:30 with short speeches from Mayor Ron Gonzales, and Mark Lazzarini. Also California's State Historic Preservation Officer spoke.
The start of the move was delayed slightly due to electronics problems. But once the move started the building could readily be seen moving along its 180 foot route.
