Here are pictures of the annex, which was demolished in order to move the remainder of the building. PAC*SJ had asked for mitigations for this demolition, as it represents a loss of significant historic material.
The new Fairmont Hotel Expansion should contain a replica of this room.

The entire room was cast plaster set on wood. It was attached with hemp fibers that had been wound around nails. Even the "wood" around the doors was just plaster. Ironically the Annex was theone part of the Montgomery Hotel that had not been damaged through the extensive remodeling that had occurred through the years. The ballroom and the annex that housed it dated from 1917. The main part of the hotel underwent a major floor plan change to allow access through what was the original ballroom to the new ballroom behind it. Several halls were added. One of them had a curved ceiling and plaster "rope" running its length at the interface between the walls and ceiling.
The asbestos abatement removed acoustic tile that had been attached to the ceiling. We are left with the circular marks where the adhesive pulled off paint and plaster.
